Advancement

Hi Everyone, I just wanted a 2nd opinion on this topic. My husband and I live and work in Mountain View. I work as an Administrative Assistant and he works as a biology lab tech due to having his Masters. The problem I am facing now is I can’t find a job in my chosen field and I can only make $20 hourly. My husband is not from this country and he takes home $26 hourly . I am trying to convince him to move because the rising costs of living are taking a toll on our marriage. It’s bad enough to the point I have to overdraft my account to pay for things. I am a US citizen and I want to find a job closer to my family back home since I can’t crack into the Silicon Valley workforce . I have done contracting and I just want to fall out of the contracting scene and have a real job. I have a Bachelors Degree in Broadcasting and Digital media. I really want to work in Recruiting but, I can’t make the career change that easily. My husband feels the opposite he loves his job but it might be mutually beneficial for us to move . Any thoughts?

It doesn't really make sense to live in mountain view unless you have one or more tech salaries (or other equivalent high paying job), or have owned property for so long that your mortgage and property taxes are low due to prop 13.

How do you folks survive in MTV on that salary? It definitely makes sense to move. Even after making 240k+ I feel like a hobo in Bay Area. I myself am planning to move, in a year or so.

Not my intention to sound that way. Just being practical.

Yes I’d move if it makes things easier, just make sure that the area has places he can work too. You both don’t even make 6figures which is needed for 1 person in the bay. Just sit down talk and go over finances and look to ea other and ask is this where we want to be

Where are you proposing to move to? Is it only for his job that he doesn't want to move?

move. no one in bay area treats recruiters srsly (maybe finance in sf). you can do sourcing from anywhere in the world as a start. bio scene in bay area is weak. you are living in the wrong part of the country for the wrong reasons. move.

I agree with all of you my husband is Indian so he feels like he belongs here more. I think it would be best to leave because it's too expensive. I agree the weather is good but, I don't feel it is worth it.
