I’m currently working on finance operations/controlling/accounting for product marketing teams at SAP. I’m interested in transitioning more towards fintech/banking either as analyst/consultant or product (non-tech) which will enable me to work on banking product offerings, hopefully on the east coast. Is this a realistic transition and what kind of TC can I expect? Also more granular career path suggestions welcome. current tc: $100k, 1.5 yoe of course, move right now is unrealistic, so taking this time to reflect
Demonstrate a mastery of SQL and very strong proficiency with python ( great with numpy/pandas, good OOP fundamentals, some experience building ML models )
Thank you - do have some exp with all that but not much! Could you give me some sample job tracks or examples based on my descriptions and the skills you listed? Don’t just want to be the “numbers guy”, but would also like to contribute to the business strategy.
Product analyst, business analyst, growth analyst roles at any fintech you will at first be a numbers person. Pretty much everyone in any interesting role at a fintech has spent years as a numbers person. Most of my non-engineer coworkers come from trading/ I banking/ consulting. As an analyst you will be responsible for helping business units made better decisions and act strategically. VPs and directors/heads rely heavily on their analysts for key insights and given the lean teams you will most likely be 'in the room' for a lot of major conversations around business strategy. The more technical aptitude you demonstrate, the more seriously you will be taken and the quicker you will move up. In fintech, a lot of the value added comes from understanding what is technically possible/feasible/achievable
The TC seems realistic, I would recommend using this downtime to start networking.
Sorry, got locked out of Blind. Could you elaborate what you meant by tc seems realistic? Further, how would you go about networking? I’m unsure where I want to go and this can put off some people when seeking advice

Anything is possible if you can spin your experience the right way. That said, my buddy at FT Partners is getting his MBA before trying to get a corporate role at a top fintech company. Not sure if an MBA would be helpful the other way around, just my 2 cents. I’d take this time to really hone your story in preparation for interviews. Sounds like you’re already doing that
