I am currently a designer at Google hardware. Looking for advice on folks that have made the jump or considered moving to Facebook hardware (FRL). Topics: culture, vision, bureaucracy, impact, WLB, benefits, etc. Current: L5 TC 300k (355k w/ appreciation) Offer: IC6 TC 420k #hardware #facebook #google #offer #advice
E6? I am loving it. And our offer looks identical.
Any insights or details? Things we might chat about over coffee on campus one day?
At E6 it really isn’t different from staff engineer expectations elsewhere. If you are L5+ at where you are at, ramping up shouldn’t be an issue. I was L7 equivalent at none FANG so this was a down level but TC bump for me. So this role is quite easy for me.
Sorta off topic, but I actually liked Daydream. Thought it had a lot of potential and was sad to see Google dropped it.
How much do you care about VR? Is it worth 70K more?
More interested in AR, and I would like to actively investigate the next wave of computing and associated interaction paradigms.
Big buzz words here. Do you actually believe in the technology, or are you being influenced what others are saying?
What is the level at G & FB??
L5 to IC6
E6? What's your yoe and offer base/rsu? I like it here
What do you like about it?
IC6 Product Design. 5 YOE. Offer (Base/RSU/bonus target): 225/150 / 45 I’m really looking forward to the mission and team. What do you like most about it? Did you join during the WFH time frame?
What is your yoe OP? I have heard good things about FB HW.
5 YOE. Any specifics you’d heard that could help me frame the decision?
Lot of chances for growth. They have a long term product plan. More work but lesser politics. Did you get IC6 with 5 YOE? Seems pretty good.
5YOE? seems like you're a rockstar then
Not a rock star. Time and place, and particularly unique expertise.
@anonlemur, can you share same topics regarding Google HW?
is PD offer same as EE?
Are you EE in Google?
I’m true product design (ID, UX), not mechanical design/PDE.
Level? I've heard WLB can be a huge argument for staying at Google
Current L5, offer is IC6 Designer. I’m in growth mode career wise, so I’m comfortable with that balance getting a bit work heavy for the next few years.
