Hi I am not able to communicate my work thoroughly in behavioral interviews. Sometimes I go too technical and sometimes I am at a very high level, currently leading 2 large scale initiatives and 2 medium sized initiatives. What are some strategies and prep materials that can help me get better at this? TC : 315
You can't just go into the interview and try to answer the questions from the top of your head even if it's about your own experiences. You have to carefully prepare and rehearse them in advance or you're gonna mess up exactly like you described. Happens to everyone. Turns out speaking freely is just not that easy. There is this book that has all the typical questions but the best part is that it also has sample answers that follow the recommended structure you can model your own after. Feels almost like cheating but these interviews are dumb anyway so š¤· https://www.amazon.com/Behavioral-Interviews-Software-Engineers-Strategies/dp/B0C1JFQYCR
My understanding is that we are overthinking. You dont really need High impact /large projects to answer behavioral questions. In the last 3 years, just think of leadership principles that you applied on a daily basis. You need to show you can work in a team setting. Able to communicate well. Articulate well, have good work ethics.
Interesting take! Thanks š
Try to take some behavior mock interviews at meetapro or interviewingio.
Makes sense Iāll do that
I used the book āBehavioral Interview for Software Engineersā to prepare for the behavior round. Highly recommended! https://rb.gy/qe7xc3

For your 2 large scale initiatives do you talk to leadership? Director, VP, c-level etc? Have you had customer facing roles before? Soft Skills there transfer over to interviews.
Was always infra but I get the point
