Advice on cracking into ML (Tech Industry / EV)

Hi guys, I am a new kid on the block around here, so there may be some rules that I miss, help me with those. I am a Software engineer from South Africa who moved to the US a couple of months ago to complete my master's in business analytics and ultimately pivot into ML/DL engineering or Data Sciences. YOE: 5+ TC: $40K (its descent/livable in south Africa not in the US) I have applied to over 100 roles for ML internships and all I get is rejection emails back to back. I have been told that this is due to the fact that I am on an F1 visa, and most Tech companies/start-ups don't sponsor OPT and H1B so they just kick you off the pile with an automated rejection email, well unless it is FAANG. I am at a point where I just need some assistance and direction, I am not giving up and not even close, I just don't know if I am doing the right thing and I don't want to continue doing the same thing that has not yielded results so far. I have reached out to tons of recruiters, alumni and connected with some, so far it hasn't been that fruitful. I love EVs quite a bit and would love to get in there but I just don't know what to do now, I need need help, please. Any advice would be greatly welcome, Internships start in May and I need this to work out!

I think the best way to break in is with past experience or going to very large companies that will support your switch. Im a mobile engineer considering to join Meta working more in AI, as I got an offer and they let you choose the team/area independent of past experience. I’ve got a masters in ML and am looking forward to getting some more exposure. If you’d like to work on/brain storm side projects together feel free to DM me

Search for H1B sponsors database. Apply for the companies that can only sponsor you

What os your experience so far in ML? The market is very competitive and you might not have enough experience for the roles you apply. It would be easier to get into ML by joining the company you want to work for in form of a role that aligns with your studies. This way you are already inside and have the ability to learn on the job and make connections. Once you feel you are ready, try to pivot into ML while being on the inside.

Ah yes I have noticed that it's fierce competition. I don't have professional experience in ML except for the projects I have done on my own. My masters is definitely in line with ML and data science. I actually thinking of maybe starting to apply for QA jobs in ML am running out of ideas
