Advice on moving

My wife and I have wanted to move from the Midwest to North Carolina since we graduated college (3 years ago). Recently I got a remote job so we could make it happen, but she's been growing in a field she likes and has made new friends. We checked out NC and loved it, but at this point is moving worth it if she's made connections here? I feel like if we don't move now, we never will. I feel like we want to grow and explore a new city. Have you moved? Was it worth it to you to experience new things by letting go of some things?

I moved from the bay area to Portland. I wanted to relocate for a while and was unhappy in the Bay Area. It was one of the best decisions we made. We had to save and prep for a while to move but it was absolutely worth it.

May I ask why you were unhappy in the Bay area? What do you like about Portland (heard it's great there)?

As a young couple starting out my husband and I could not afford a house with our combined income, we felt stuck in our careers and stuck in Bay area traffic. We didn't want to raise our family there. In Oregon we bought our first home, both had greater success in our careers, felt happier with the community we were joining. To be fair a lot of other people have left the Bay area and some of the things we didn't like there are now happening here. The community is growing rapidly and that growth hasn't been smooth. The local infrastructure could be a lot better. And I miss the diversity of the Bay area. That said I am happier here. Life is short sometimes you have to take a risk.

Where do you live currently? Could you describe your moving experience?

What part of NC? The various regions of the state are wildly different from a geographic, climate, and cultural standpoint.

Raleigh area

Raleigh is really cool. This is a deeply personal decision for your family, and I'm doubtful that strangers online will be able to help you make it. Sometimes when faced with big life decisions it can be helpful to hire a counselor to help you get to the root of your feelings. Have you and your wife considered that?

Raleigh is a wonderful place for people with family
