How many people have a 401K account equal to the recommended amount? 1x salary by 30, 3x by 40, 6x by 50, 8x by 60x, 10x by 67. https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/retirement/how-much-do-i-need-to-retire List age and account size in comments. 40 and 2x
My salary is increasing at a rate that makes it functionally impossible to save at these recommendations.
That’s not a problem. Very seen it’ll stop growing at all and save you from headaches
That’s assuming you wAnt to sustain preretirement lifestyle under big assumptions. If you make 500k and your life style is to save 400k and spend 100k, you will need the same amount as someone making 100k. The whole article is not so applicable to what most of you are trying to do
Less than recommended in 401k, but I have other assets that don't have a tax liability.
In tech I think that’s hard to do just because our salaries are so high and the 401k contribution limit is capped.
Agreed; always curious why they don’t just say your current annual expenses multiplied by x.
Totally agree with OP statement. It should be how much you spend and not how much you make. Problem is most people know how much they make but don’t track how much they spend.
