*NOTE I was not affected by layoffs* its really sad to see the majority of top performers cut. Leadership blindly made these decisions by keeping their friends and what would look good from a diversity perspective. Its truly very said to see a lot of recent promos and folks with GE and EE ratings be let go in this uncertain economy. please reach out to the folks on tbe layoff list. they truly were some of the best talent at airbnb...

Generally the best performers were saved, but there were many cases where the org or team situation trumped the perf rating

Varied a lot by org; anything related to marketing, growth, HR, outside Bay Area, side businesses, non-eng got crushed extremely hard. Know people with GE with very competitive skills sets that got let go. From people I know, gender and URM didn’t play a very large part, was mostly team and role based.

While I agree that many high performers were let go, saying leadership blindly made cuts is an over exaggeration. Leadership made cuts based on the info and data they have, some of which isn’t made available to the rest of the org for good reason.
That’s not what I heard from my friend at ABB. Many female engineers got laid off, that’s hurting diversity i guess
It was mostly org-based, and where a certain number of folks had to be cut on a team, it looked to be mostly tenure based.
