I have offers from each of these companies, any insight is helpful. The Airbnb is substantially higher comp compared to the Cruise offer at current valuation, they also have a money making product and are close to IPO. Culture seems healthier at Airbnb too, and the office just felt significantly less... depressing. Airbnb: 600K (250K base, 50K sign on + 25% annual bonus, 300K of RSUs) Cruise: 450K (250K base, 50K sign on + 25% annual bonus, 150K of RSUs) On the other hand, Cruise is in a fascinating problem space and my role there would have a lot of growth (the team has highly ambitious growth plans - but is not a core AV team, which might make things more frustrating). The recruiter seems to be banking on further equity upside, which seems very uncertain given how rapidly they've taken on funding. Other than the growth, the roles are similar in terms of what I'd be doing. Do Cruise or Airbnb employees have thoughts? I've read some pretty damning posts about Cruise here. TC 285K, YoE 8
What. Are. Da. Offers. 🤔🤔
What are the levels for each?
Airbnb! That's real money will be in your account very soon. AV is a few years away, and who knows which company will be the winner. You can join one of them a few years later.
Airbnb without thinking twice even if the TC was the same
No question Airbnb fo sho
How is this even a question? I feel like OP is trolling....
Nah, genuinely interested! I think I came to the same conclusion as the commenters here, just wanted the validation. These career moves are somewhat important!
On top of all that, search "Cruise" on Blind to see how terrible the culture at Cruise apparently is.
You'd be an idiot not to take Airbnb here. Significantly higher pay, nearing IPO, better culture. I didn't even know what Cruise was and it took me like 3 google searches for the company to even come up. The self driving market is super saturated right now. Do you expect a company owned by GM to beat out Google, Tesla, Apple, Uber, NVidia, BMW, and just about every Chinese tech company on the planet? How sure are you of that? Equity upside is far from ensured here.
Yeah Cruise won't beat us 💪💪
Great questions, thank for the prompt. I'm probably biased by my friends who work in the AV space but it sounds like Cruise is well positioned because of the GM partnership (control over hardware, no need to solve the manufacturing process) and their timing (lots of funding, slight head start to the rest of the competition besides Waymo). But you're right that it is highly saturated. It also sounds like the tech is very unlikely to work for a good while yet.
Airbnb might be a better choice for you given the TC and leveling. But it might surprise you when they plan to IPO (close to never) and how your RSU values even if the do (struggling with growth, a reason they didn’t want to go IPO now )

TC for each? Or GTFO (can’t really help you without all info)
I'll update.
Thanks. Better to break it down though (base, bonus, equity, refresher if any). Comp is a big factor in the decision, and not all dollars are equal (since it’s private). Also did you get an L6 eng offer?
