Had a technical phone screen for a backend role at Airbnb. However, the interviewer (really enjoyed talking to him btw) was from an infra team and the project he has been working on sounds very exciting to me. From the description it seems like it would be a better fit for me so I asked my recruiter if I could change the "track". I was told the interviews are very different for backend and infra teams but they would follow up with more details later. So I was wondering if anyone from Airbnb's infra team can comment on team's culture, wlb and etc. Also, if anyone who interviewed with them could comment on the structure of the onsite interviews and perhaps a difference between generic/backend vs infra specific interviews? Thanks!
Do the interview track that matches you best. During boot camp you can choose your team at Airbnb
But why do you want to get into Infra OP? Isn't it shit?
Ok, it's called Platform not infra :) and I personally prefer working on, for example, system's/service's scalability than on a specific feature unless it has a huge impact.
But I definitely understand that it might be too "devops-y" for hard core engineers :)
You should also apply to Google's SRE team as SWE, sounds like it may interest you.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was told Google interviewing process is pretty lengthy so I'll save it for next time.
They will speed up with competing offers
What does infra teams do?
They have many sub-teams iirc. The team that I am interested in is doing k8s development/management. They also do aws related stuff (closer to devops I guess)
Are these Platform teams?
