The ultimate unicorn showdown đŚ Where would you rather work? Also feel free to say why in the comments
Assuming SWE, Uber is solving really hard technical problems at a scale that's comparable to the biggest businesses in the world. AirBnB operates at an order of magnitude less scale and the technical challenges are more about implementation and integration.
Whatâs Uber solving? I thought itâs just an app for ride sharing and some failed autonomous vehicle stuff,
Yeah. Can you tell what exactly Uber is solving âat scaleâ?
Technically I find Uber to be much more interesting, as others already pointed out. I am less sure about their business - I hear they are still subsidizing rides. I also realized that I paid Airbnb more in fees (meaning money going directly to them) than I spent on Uber rides (of which only small fraction goes to Uber).
Uber has much bigger scale; far mire complicated, dynamic, realtime requirement to fulfill a transaction. Another interesting part might be that it has more business lines.
Donât like bnbâs culture. You will feel it during interview
Very #woke
The interview I had was really good but that was just the first one with one interviewer. I havenât heard good things about Uberâs culture though either. Whatâs wrong with Airbnbâs?
uberâs technical challenges/scale/complexity are much more appealing to me but both are great
I see this advice a lot. But I would rather advise based on what team he/she is joining. Uber product maybe more technically challenging, but he/she may be working on more challenging stuff at Airbnb instead and something small in Uber. Unless both teams look equally interesting.
