I am a team lead SDE at a tier 3 company and have a L6 offer from AWS on a very well established product team. I also have a 3 year old and a 3 month old baby and would need to move to Seattle from Chicago. The team uses a language which I've never used before, not that I can't learn it but given the cut throat nature of Amazon I'm not convinced I'll be given enough time to ramp up and I'm questioning if I'm a hire to fire candidate. Should I take it or keep interviewing? Interviews in pipeline are a startup, Bloomberg and Oracle cloud infra. Current TC: 220k Offer TC: 400k #aws
Extend the start date in AWS. Accept the offer but do not join if you get something better
You’ve never used the language before and they made you an offer? That’s super sus.
L6 at Amazon is a true leadership role. It is not a heads down coding role. I’m not surprised. He’s a smart guy, he’ll learn.
Appreciate it
I worked at Amazon for a long time. If you’re willing to work at least 10 hours per day, you can succeed, and you should take the offer. I wouldn’t take it myself, because being a father is job #1.
I love being a father more than anything
Doesn't seem worth for that TC bump. Ask for 500k+
risk is too big to uproot your entire family for it. unless you are extremely confident in your abilities (seems like you’re not that confident since you made this post) dont do this. do bloomberg and move to nyc. they have good wlb and pay decent. they also dont fire often
The companies you have in your pipeline aren't that impressive. AWS is a better option than all of them. I would stay either stay where you are or move to AWS.

There is a higher expectation and a steep learning curve at that level but I don’t think they have any hire to fire going on right now. Congratulations
Some teams in AWS are ok, but it is like a hit or miss thing. I think for the pay bump, it is probably worth it. But note the dishonest RSU vesting - 5%, 15%, 40%, 40%. You’ll probably want to stay 4 years to make it worthwhile, or just leave quickly after you get the brand name on your resume.

Take AWS and keep interviewing
Idiot take it means he would need to relocate and you’re suggesting to take it and keep interviewing after a major move from Chicago to Seattle
You’re right. I forgot that Seattle is a barren wasteland without any other tech companies. Chicago on the other hand offers many more opportunities in the tech world!
