update: Yep, laid off. Thanks again to everyone for their advice and goodwill. Made a new thread at https://www.teamblind.com/post/yHKhSoOA including Blind tax, which I forgot when making this thread. I work at a startup. Manager just booked a generic title, no agenda 15 min meeting for tomorrow w/ me + the finance / HR guy. When I asked him it was for, he said something evasive about a calendar issue then resent the invite with the guest list hidden (lol). As far as I've been told / can tell, my performance is fine to good but the company is entering fundraising and expecting to have a tough time. This screams incoming layoff to me, with the only wrinkle being that the meeting is being booked a day in advance instead of getting pulled into a meeting on the spot. Thoughts? #layoff #advice #startups edit: Thanks for all the input! I'll be sure to update this thread tomorrow after I find out.
Yes.
It has all the symptoms of Layoffs. Been there
Do you think there would be a reason for a layoff?
The company did a round of cuts just a month or two ago and wound down one of its products. I'm also a relatively expensive US senior hire in analytics (i.e. luxury for a startup), so I can see how they'd look to me next.
You aren't a luxury at a startup . I headed analytics at a startup 17 years ago and they knew how important it was. However, they thought it was more important to hire a consultant supposedly who would work for me, but refused. To make matters worse, he didn't know anything about the subject and was paid doubke my TC. He told me at one point he was really there to become the GM of some fantasy Russian org which never was going to happen. That company is dead now.
Yes. Record your layoff conversation and be famous?
Don't, if OP doesn't want to become a red flag for companies
Bruh. Good tik tok ad revenue
Possibly. Better have your facts straight.
Assume it's a layoff and make sure you have all contact information and anything else you want to take with you downloaded. Good luck, OP. My spouse was there in 2020 but had no notice.
Appreciate the advice and well wishes.
Yes, look for hr’s calendar, if there a a bunch of 15min meetings, then 100%.
Oh that's a great suggestion, thanks - I looked and they do have 3 in a row.
Then yes, it might be 3 people layoff under same manager so it’s happening at similar time. Or could be the total number depending on company size.
Layoff. Take your personal stuff and your notes home today. So tomorrow if they lay you off, you don’t have to clean out your desk with someone hovering. Connect on LinkedIn to folks you like, get reference information.
Either layoff or promo lol
Maybe both!
Eh, if it were promo, the manager would not have been this evasive
