What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I'm still waiting on my onsite to be scheduled but I just found out two other friends of mine (also IBMers) are interviewing with Amazon but they're interviewing for sde2/ midlevel. They both have 1 YOE, well one of them has 3 since she did 2 years before going for her master's and the other has 1 YOE plus masters. I have a bachelor's and 1YOE, should I reapply or talk to my recruiter about sde2, or am I overthinking it
You will likely get downleveled if you only have 1 YoE and interview for SDE 2
This happened to me! Interviewed for sde2. Got downleveled.
Same. Interviewed for SDE2, got downleveled
Degrees matter zero. Getting shit done matters one.
Yup! Only if you can “get shit done”. Doesn’t apply to average folks lol
You have to get shit done to get a degree.
if u are smart enough you can get promoted in one year
Your colleagues with masters interviewed or cleared? Interviewed is different from getting offer as SDE2 Its very common at Amazon where job will be for SDE2/3 but they hire SDE1/2 based on candidate
I was at Amazon for 10 years, it's a fucking firehose when you first join. Going in as an sde1 is better for you, less expectations and thus more room to make mistakes, learn and grow. Will you be making less than your friends at first? Probably, but don't worry about that noise. Get your foot in the door, learn the ropes of the company, then rock it.
In those 10 years, how many promotions did you get? Also how much did your comp increase overall?
What do you mean by a firehose?
Sure, having a bachelors and masters is same. You don’t have to spend 2 years to get a masters. I didn’t knew that either. Hun!
I was not aware that the both of them were a band above me so it makes sense actually 😅 my bad haha
