I’m a CS new grad working at Deloitte for a couple of months on a gov contract. Recently got a SDE1 offer from Amazon which is a lot higher. I’m in Seattle right now looking at apartments and for some reason I have this knot in my stomach constantly making me doubt leaving Deloitte. The Deloitte job isn’t even swe, it’s just consulting and grunt pm work. But it’s stable af, and there’s no PiP at Deloitte. What if I just get fired from Amazon within 2 months? I’ve never worked somewhere big doing technical work like that. How do I kill the self doubt? Or is it survival instinct and I should listen to jt? Deloitte TC 100k Amazon TC 160k
Kill self doubt: ask for even more. You can probably get $250k
if you know what’s good for you you’ll stay at deloitte. for your peace of mind
Go to Amazon, it'll accelerate your career. Transfer internally if you ever get signal that you're unfairly targeted. SDE at Deloitte is not great for early career, probably not ever. I've worked at both and AWS is a much better space for technical roles
What org are you joining? If it’s ProServe you’ll be fine, because that’s also consulting.
What's your base in Amazon?
130
Don’t listen to ones saying stay at Deloitte. Your career will be ruined there. Move to Amazon and if you don’t like it there you can always move to other tech companies. Deloitte is one of the worst places to work for SWEs.
How is Delotte for product people/management?
Go to AWS and if it doesn’t workout.. Just switch. Fail Fast is the way to Improve. It’s just SDE1 so expectations will not be that great. If you missed the chance now you have to be in the boat sooner or later as SDE2 or SDE3 which will be even worse. So Just take the chance NOW.
This is a really good point.
Amazon > Deloitte in terms of career opportunities. May need to grind for a couple of years depending on team.
it’s a massive upgrade

Lol absolutely not Amazon is objectively the best move for you. You wont get pipped at Amazon in 2 months, and even if you did, pip is a few months I believe, so you can just use that time to find a new job
amazon + pip is still much better than deloitte
