I've spent +10 years at SAP, I know, its not glamorous, but I can't understand why I can't seem to land a new gig. I've led marketing teams, major strategic initiatives, and even spent several years working in the leadership team of our new products and ventures division. I've reached onsite interviews at Stripe, UIPath and a handful of others, but can't seem to even have a conversation with most of my applications into even the closest of enterprise SW firms: Microsoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow... rejections before I even speak to someone. I'm starting to wonder whether the perception of SAP is THAT damaging, or am I just delusional that I have meaningful skills and experience to bring to the table at a growing or at scale enterprise software company? Am I doomed to stay at SAP forever? TC: 260k YOE: 13
It gets harder when you're specialized and higher in ranking. What you're seeing is normal from my observation. Have you considered looking for headhunters? Also, have you thought about high ranks within series C+ unicorns instead? It'll most likely refresh your credibility in the long run too
That's my most recent push into later round businesses scaling fast, but my network sucks as I moved to the US only a year before COVID. Have you had any success with a headhunter? any advice? I've never used one before...
I'm not at your level but at all the series c+ startups I worked at (I hopped 3 companies the past 4 years), >80% of our high rank hires were through headhunters
You might be just bad at interviewing.
entirely possible... interviewing with Amazon forced me to be more structured in my responses, but I could probably do better here.
Same here! Reject after reject even with a referral , I’m getting rejects in the first round where they are rejecting my resume 😭 I’m doomed to stay forever at EY! I got two professionals to review my resume and no luck either!
Same boat here. So glad I'm not alone!
I don’t think it’s the perception of SAP else you won’t even land interviews. Can’t say if you have meaningful experience but if you do, you might want to look into how you’re explaining your experiences. Crisp and clear communication is key at your level. That’d be my 2 cents.
Thanks, that's a good reminder.
SAP is not the reason. Just look where our ceo came from
Our experience of SAP tech has been awful. We are a small firm but high profile. Could be a factor. Good luck!
>rejections before I even speak to someone. It's probably your resume
Possibilities: 1) too long at the same company/not diversified enough 2) it’s a numbers game, hang in there and keep at it 3) you’re a white male and aren’t benefiting from minority quotas at the moment My best guess is #2, but could be any
It's either your experience isn't what you think it is or you're bad at interviewing. The longer you've been at a company, you might fall into the trap of just "talking" about all of the things you've done. It's hard to do because "you know what you know" but going back to basics. STAR method, Basic frameworks to structure your thought process. I found Jeff Sipe (xoogler) YouTube videos immensely helpful in going back to basics.

What role are you applying for?
A combination of GTM strategy/ops, Field Marketing, or Product Marketing roles. I made it through 2 interviews at AWS but was dropped out, and haven't had any luck since...
