Amazon - change team

Recently joined amazon but not enjoying work and don't see a future there with this team. People are not friendly, there is no feeling of working in/for a team. Everybody is trying to manage everyone, there is no clear leader. Scrum is just for saying, it is useless. I can perform better and can make things better. Gave few suggestions and response was it is like this only here. Afraid to ask for team change as it has only been 2 months. What do you guys suggest? SDEII - 240k tc

I don't think there's anything unfair in having this conversation with your manager. If you're bored, things are not good - your manager deserves to know that. Have a heart to heart with him/her. See if you can solve the problems one at a time. That may even put you on a path to SDE-3. If you've tried to have this conversation with your manager and nothing changes, no one can blame you for wanting a team and environment change. If you have tried fixing it and didn't work, I've an SDE - 2 req open. Happy to chat.

Lol “deserves” 😂😂😂 If an SDM can't even sense that the scrum aren't efficient then god knows when he deserves.

I'm not saying he or she's a good manager. Just wanted OP to give the manager a chance to learn and correct

I think you are totally eligible for a team change. Please do the needful and let others worry about themselves.

Yes. The best!

Manager should be even interested to help you - nobody wants bad tech survey results

What if I the manager already has a bad tech survey rating and my experience matches with the managers rating? Would that make a good case for team change within 2-3 months of joining ?

Agreed with @superman84, just one word of caution. Always approach it in "increments", dont start the conversation with a barrage of complaints. This is general advice for everyone on every topic. You may have to start with a specific thing first, then follow up with something else, and ramp it up. There is nothing wrong with having this conversation with your manager ( an open, help me connect better sorts), but remember, they may not be prepared to act. Be super clear on your goal, and try and grab a mentor. Try to align your goals with your org's goals (and your manager's goals). Life is too short to be stuck in shitty situations, give it your best shot to remedy the situation, if it doesn't improve fast enough, bail out quickly. And in general, dont run away from a situation, run towards one. Take the time to figure out what you need and where you will get what you need. With my tenure at Amazon, I have a large pool of people who are great managers, excellent mentors, and I am sure quite a few are hiring SDE2s/SDE3s. I can put you in touch (confidentially of course).

I think I’m lucky to work in a team with good balance and culture, It’s not in AWS and operationally speaking we’re pretty chill. If you’re interested in consumer org teams, DM me and I can tell you more
