** YOE 3 years devops 1 year sde ** Situation: I interviewed for Amazon L5 but down level to L4 due to system design round just done the sell call with an hm under Amazon ads, the team is building a toB full-stack application that modifies videos/pictures to make merchandise look better to indirectly help increase sales. It is a new application and only went into production in June 2022. Also got a verbal offer from a fintech/crypto company - Ripple (not Rippling ) that asked me to confirm by next Tuesday. position is intermediate. Ripple is pre-IPO though. Joining it at crypto market's low-value time might be a good idea, cuz it has more room for stock value to grow in the future? ** Business Amazon: advertising campaign for merchandise sellers Ripple: utilizing crypto/blockchain technology to fulfill secured and fast seamless foreign exchange. The clients are small banks in different continent. **Tech Stack: Amazon: Java, AWS, React, full-stack Ripple: Java, AWS, K8, Docker, backend **TC: detailed unknown yet, but should be similar between these two offers. note: Ripple's RSU can be retained for up to 7 years even after leaving the company Base salary: Ripple is slightly higher **Team Members: Amazon: Hm joined two months ago , 4 L4s , 4 L5s, 1 L6 (10 persons in total) Ripple: 4 senior, 5 intermediate, 4 new grads, 1 manager **Location: Amazon: 1 day onsite every week Ripple: fully remote as team members are in different places, can go to the local office if you want. **My personal reasons for choosing either of them (might not be valid reasons) Amazon: -resume builder that makes me easier to get other FAANG+ interviews (but prior to joining Amazon, I was also able to get virtual onsite interview from other FAANG+ like Square, Wish, Doordash, Dropbox, Microsoft etc.) Ripple: -probably better WLB ( I guess) -speculation that the stock might go up a lot in the next years -no need to worry about front-end stuff **The reasons I don't want to join them: Amazon: -terrible WLB -worry of pip Ripple: -not a FAANG+ (this is the only reason, not as useful as Amazon on the resume? ) Which one should I choose? Appreciated for the polls but as well as the comments !!! #engineering #software #swe #career #jobs #sde #offer #negotiation #it #softwareengineering #developer #backend #fullstack #Amazon #Ripple #canada #careerChoice
Im in ads and my wlb is pretty solid.
do you know about the team I mentioned? I think the pronunciation is like "Bi-zzard", can't google this pretty new team thou.
No im guessing thats in a totally different department/org than me
Ads sucks
how lol
Meta ads sucks, I assume that experience generalized across companies.
There’s nothing stopping you from buying XRP with your Amazon income. You should have a leg up over the other L4, especially if they are new grads. In that sense you shouldn’t have to worry about PIP. (IMO) Ripple is much less useful on your resume. Finally, WLB is team/org dependent. Not everywhere at Amazon is a shit pipfest where everyone is in a quantum state of oncall. In b4 “HURRR AMAZON SUX I GOT PIPPED AND IM AN AMAZING SDE”
Will be joining amazon as a DS II next month in operations technology, eg math behind inventory, routing etc. From interviews, culture seems to be on the brighter side of the amazon spectrum. Any experience on your end, @wHbS52?
