Hi folks....I am looking to understand the culture of the Alexa organization. Furthermore, I would love to get a perspective from someone within the organization. #tech #alexa
Big org, but overall it’s a total shitshow full of corrupt politicians.
Can you expand on that? Are there a set of teams who run the show? Why is the org political? Is that a strak difference between this org and the others at Amazon?
Lots of accumulated tech debt, duplication of work across orgs, clueless managers building empires, etc. AWS was definitely much better.
Leadership is weak & corrupt - bunch of Skills folks that have failed upwards Organization is bloated & disjointed - no clear goals, duplicative charters, debt Customer value prop is boring & uninspired - devices no longer have a wow factor and 3P integrations are a joke Business model is non-existent
Extremely poor management. 8 years in Amazon, first time have seen a VP reading through associate productivity reports for 90 mins a week. Doing the same for months together. In other teams getting calender of a VP not very easy.
Any insight about Alexa Privacy and Alexa Devices org's culture, Wlb and growth options?
run, Big changes coming in next few months in Alexa, it’s a fucking shit show, try to transfer etc Also bit of advice don’t tell anybody your thinking of transferring no matter how nice they seem. Snitches everywhere bc of the cut throat culture. You will get pip immediately to Prevent you from transferring. Message other teams managers directly and ask for a informal interview to see what options are out there. To say you don’t want to risk throwing things off with your team. Other team managers will get the clue and realize you got a bad manager and do a informal interview. Then give you a offer by email etc then do the official process and it’s to late for your manager to try to block you. I’ve even had managers offer to get HR involved when asking for informal without me asking bc they know the deal. Also always keep In mind these big companies aren’t everything. They r good for experience and big company name on your resume. However once you got some experience plenty of other nice companies that pay the same if not more and great work life balance. Also in lot lower cost of living areas with lot cheaper housing allowing you to retire a lot earlier and HAPPIER. Don’t get sucked Into the cult mentality Amazon are FAANG is all there is

Where specifically, this is a big org.
Seattle
As Alexa-bad has said that's a big org. They had a whole building (old Macy's) in Seattle and then some more, only in Seattle. Do you know which team in Alexa?
