Hi, I have a call scheduled to discuss offer (numbers) later today for Applied Scientist 1 (L4) at Amazon. The team is in Alexa AI org and is located in Sunnyvale/SF Bay Area. The average salary range I could gather from few Glassdoor and blind posts has very high standard deviation (probably because the sample size is <30). So I’m not sure what TC to ask for or negotiate for. I have masters + 3 YOE in pure research role Current TC: 110k Any help appreciated. Thanks
You should target for L5
proly 250 all in
Check levels.fyi Data Scientist page and filter for applied scientist l4 https://www.levels.fyi/company/Amazon/salaries/Data-Scientist/
There are only 5 US data points all in Seattle but I'd assume you could ask ~270 for SFO from these numbers.
Thanks for the link! I checked this as well. Too bad RS/DS/AS all tagged under DS.. this is just too noisy. But I think the highest numbers at each exp level must be the AS numbers. This gives a general idea
Applied scientist compensation band is almost one level up compared to SDE, so you may target SDE L5 comp, maybe a bit below of that. Also, note that applied scientist pays more than research scientist/data scientist.
Idk why they hire me at L4. Tbf my exp is 2.9 (of 2.12) and no CS deg. Idk if that matters or only the interview performance does. Whatever it is, there’s too much confusion around this for me. And there’s limited AS 1 , L4 roles open right now.
With your YOE, both L4 and L5 may fit. So being hired to L4 sounds reasonable. In my reply I was referring to compensation. AS L4 in terms of compensation could be close to SDE L5.
OP did you take the offer? I have about 3 yoe too + master, just received a L4 offer w/o numbers yet. Wanted to know if that's decent.
Yes
Final offer was $149k base, 91k+63k sign on and 56 RSUs
Thanks for sharing!
What does 91k+63k mean? How is it split?
Do you love pain?
Yes. I work all the time so I’ll fit right in. Now get off if you don’t have anything constructive or useful to the community. Thanks
I think that was pretty useful.
