I was reading a comment by someone who works at Amazon saying there are 4 DS roles/positions at Amazon - two that don't require coding and two that require SDE level coding. I can't find that post anymore. I vaguely remember it being along these lines so I might not be perfectly wording it out. Can someone please elaborate on this for clarity? I'm a recent grad (Dec 2019) looking to get into DS roles at Amazon and this would help me immensely. Also if any kind soul is willing to refer me for the same roles it'd be great! Thanks and happy holidays!! TC : new grad
RS and AS all require coding. BIE/DS = SQL based, with opportunities to go basic modeling via R/Python (depend on your team though), MLE probably falls into the SDE track.
What’s the difference between RS and AS? Thought they were the same thing. What’s the ranking by TC?
It's been a while for me. I thought it's AS>RS>DS>BIE. Note, you can pull data from the hr tables to look at your job code/hired field. For instance, stats hire’s pay band > bie’s pay-band.
The ones that require SDE coding are probably applied scientist and machine learning engineer. The ones that don’t are data scientist and business intelligence engineer.
I wouldn’t consider bie, ds? I feel like most BIEs just use tableau/sql. There’s also the data engineer role too though?
I can’t really think of a 4th that fits the bill and I have seen work from BIEs building predictive models. It’s rare for sure among that job family though.
