Hi there, I'm looking for insights about Amazon's finance teams in Seattle. Would appreciate any feedback from Amazon employees on Blind. How are the finance teams structured? What is the WLB like? Good time to join?
Heard it’s intense.. not sure if this is right though...
Just aws or all teams?
Almost all teams are intense from what I hVe seen
AWS Finance is really intense, specially during planning (which is all the time haha) There is a lot of turnover, people rotating positions all the time, there are some teams more stable than others, but from my perspective (which is really close) wlb seems just in the edge of acceptable for some teams and ridiculous on some others.
This. Planning is never over! A lot of turnover and because of that there is a lot of churn. Only good thing is after being here for a while you can move to a business role or other company with a higher title and pay.
Is Amazon currently hiring L4 Financial Analysts?
Finance is severely understaffed since we predominantly provide support services, so WLB is a problem from what I see (but that’s amazon in general). It honestly all depends on the team you end up. I am in F3 and would avoid it like coronavirus but others have different experiences. At the end of the day Business partners/tech leaders drive the show, so your financial modeling will have to be very flexible (I.e. model out whatever leadership wants regardless whether it makes sense lol
Spot on. Whats F3?
F3 - Fresh, Food, Fast - grocery delivery/physical stores.
You got to pay to play...send me some $$ and I will answer all your questions...5 years in the group
Haha finance at amazon is the lowest paying. Idk why anyone stays for peanuts
Why you think I am asking for money?
Don't go in finance, worst experience!
Do share
Shit pay, incredible working hours, not respected, you spend more time making tables nice for Sr leaders
There’s FP&A jobs and then business finance jobs. Not first hand experience but I’ve heard AWS Finance is pretty rough in both arenas. Other orgs can be good. Very specific roles so you’ll go deep vs going go wide in knowledge so depending on what you like that may be good or bad. Agree with others-seems a lot of people use it as resume fodder to move onto something outside.
Is business finance shadow finance roles?
I have a slightly off topic question than OP. My fiance is CA and has 5 years of work experience working in FP&A for Tata Cloud. Does she require to have CPA degree for finance roles in US?
What about other Finance roles (Retail/Devices etc)?
Don’t do it. Finance pays the lowest of all the business roles
I’ve seen some L7s with lower comps than me as an L5. Finance is definitely trash tier at Amazon.
Oof. That’s rough. What’s your role bcoin?
Working at Amazon sucks
Very broad questions. Depends what role and org. Every org has finance and accounting teams
Finance manager. Wanted to get more insight about how this role varies across different orgs. Currently interested in AWS.
Given the size of the company, a lot depends on the team and the manager. AWS is relatively more intense than other orgs.
