Amazon Game Studios : Thoughts?

If you work at Amazon Game Studios or know anything about it -- what is like? How is the compensation/competition/culture? Curious to see if it'd be a possibility to move into FAANG but continue working on games

They have yet to ship anything in 5+ years, so I think the clock is ticking for them. Seems like an unstable option but it is one of the few game jobs paying TC comparable to software. If you are a SWE I’d aim for Lumberyard team for max job longevity. Obviously in terms of TC it blows other game companies away. Offices are nice. I understand it to be less crunchy than some other Amazon teams, but crunchy nonetheless. Seems like a possible good way to transition from game industry to FAANG

Didn't that group just release The Grand Tour game? I'm thinking gaming for Amazon is a long bet.

They were supposed to launch something with us 2 years ago. The concept was pretty rad... But I've yet to see a product launch

They haven’t brought a single thing to market so if that’s something you’re interested in, stay away. Otherwise it’s probably much better comp and WLB than traditional gaming companies

Layoffs now

For those saying they haven't brought anything to market: false. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grand_Tour_Game

Do it for a comp bump. Don’t do it for work. Curious to know, any particular reason you’re leaving blizzard?

Twitch Yamazaki21 Jun 9, 2019

Cause blizzard is shit. Read the news bruh. Company is falling apart

Amazon ehensudie Sep 23, 2019

Not really. The only thing the news talked about were the big layoffs, but that was due to Bungie splitting afaik.

Management at AGS is toxic and lacks strategy. Most studio heads were has-beens from late 90s.
