Amazon reportedly visited Chicago in August, and it could mean everything we think we know about its HQ2 decision so far is dead wrong https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-hq2-reps-visited-chicago-second-time-report-2018-9
Bezos punked you all.
Media punking people with their experts and analysts. They don't know. Bezos said announcement by the end of the year. That and the short list is all anyone knows.
They should expand in Bellevue instead
I hope it's in Chicago as I've been looking to move back
Does Google Chicago not have a lot of opportunities?
I've only seen a few SWE openings when I have looked and every team I've seen is just part of one small organization so you cannot try out different products like maps, photos...
Chicago is a great place to hire top engineering talent at more affordable prices. I built out an engineering office there for my last company - it was our very small scale "HQ2" to avoid the craziness of Bay Area hiring. It is no NYC, but less dirty than SF, more to do and more nice people than Seattle, easy flights to East Coast, good time zone compatibility to West Coast, fantastic Universities in the area (Northwestern, U Chicago, UIUC not far away) and affordable houses for grownups outside of downtown area. Traffic is crap though, worse than Seattle.
How's the public transit?
Pretty good. They have the metra rail which goes out to all the suburbs and an elevated rail called the El that handles downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods
Is this still going on? I will wait till the time they lay down the first brick.
