Got an early access invite to try the device. To fully use the services of the device, I might have to share my voice profile, body pictures, heartbeat data, sleeping patterns and other private data. Although the FAQs clearly states that services requiring processing in the cloud would be deleted once computed. I'm not sure if they actually would do that. What am I missing? Am I being paranoid For those who don't know what it is, here's a link to it https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Halo-Fitness-And-Health-Band/dp/B07QK955LS Is it worth the price, I'm getting it for roughly 70$. Would like to hear your thoughts. Would you buy it?
(I now work for a Privacy team within an Amazon Devices org) yes, they delete everything. It’s hard to believe but (in recent years) amazon takes their privacy shit seriously
Is the data from the band, in anyway pipelined to the recommendation algorithms on the Amazon.com site? Since the requirement is to create an account using the prime membership account.
nope, none of it is. we need to get vp approval for sharing data outside of the halo org and its mostly for our own metrics or logging.
It's pretty silly to use any device that collects all of this personal data / biometrics and expecting privacy, IMO. Any company's policy on data retention can change at any time and you can be sure that there won't be much transparency. Theyre in it for the money first and foremost, not in helping you improve your health or whatever
FACTS. But what they really did make a push about data privacy on the product page. So you mean to say we can never have all these metrics without compromising our data? You suggest any other device that does similar thing without the similar data scare?
Whoop but it’s 10x as expensive
i work in the org. privacy is the one thing we take pretty seriously. Your data will not be used for any type of ML unrelated to the app. We will also delete all your health data if you choose to. that being said i think the product is really mediocre
They do delete it
The fineprint says that they don't share the medical data directly linked to you, which means they would share other data right? Like your body images, since it is not identifiable without other meta data supporting it?
They delete the body images as well.
