And it’s official. The one true savior is now on hiring freeze Amazon pauses hiring for corporate workforce https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/03/amazon-pauses-hiring-for-corporate-workforce.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard
Fuck. Fed you see this? Time to pivot before you destroy America.
This is actually the goal of FED. Increasing unemployment.
It isn't. Their mandate is to protect employment
no more 🍌
This is the end of times
Lol
What about those interns who has the offer after their graduation? They are supposed to join in Jan/Feb. Considering situation won't be changed by then, should they consider the offer rescinded?
No. At least not in my org. Interns are definitely still coming back
PIP rate is likely to be raised to reduce costs.
Does this mean they'll also freeze annual PIP and URA quotas? Seems stupid as fuck to fire 3% of your workforce every year even in normal times, and downright insane to do so during a hiring freeze.
This comment doesn't make any sense. Baseline assumption is some involuntary attrition and some voluntary attrition. If you want to downsize, continued attrition makes perfect sense. The pip/ura quota isn't good practice imo but the fact that there's a hiring freeze doesn't have anything to do with that. You're misinterpreting the objective here.
I think they’re going to reduce headcount with URA/PIP. There’s a perception that big tech is bloated. 2023 looks like a really bad year.
Is this applicable only for US or worldwide hiring freeze?
How is TD doing in this env? I hope you working at TD Canada.. are you still hiring?
Big Tech is locked down. No more lifeboats people!
Scary part is that it affects AWS now. Previously AWS was not on any freeze.
Fr? Even AWS? I feel like i still get emails, even yesterday
I think it only started yesterday. Not everyone is even fully informed yet.
Means more contractors
This
Nobody likes contractors for corp roles. Never seen a single SDE or PM contractor at Amazon. Just a couple of junior QAEs and device testers.
