I walked the HM through my resume and was asked one STAR question. The HM wasn’t rude or rushing, I tried to make interview last longer by asking questions relevant to the role and the HM was engaged. Is this a good sign or bad? UPDATE: Amazon told me they were not moving forward. Gonna just KMS in the new year.
I would definitely call this out to your recruiter. I can't see this being anything but bad.
Linkedin fella, I have hard time imagining op saying sometime so retarded that it instantly torpedoed interview without having a clue. Although maybe op is completely oblivious.
After doing 200+ interviews in a rare occasion of ending early I don't think it was a surprise for interviewee. So who knowns what happened.
Worlds best employer
Hah, there's an internal video of a VP explaining this leadership principle where he openly brags about PIPing someone on his team as an example of being the world's best employer. The people up top are genuinely fucked in the head.
Ah yes, Matt Garman of AWS
Bad sign. My interview was scheduled for 45 mins and it ended in 30 mins. The interview wasn't bad though. I got a rejection mail.
Mine was scheduled for 45 mins and ended in 30 mins. Got hired.
Mine was scheduled for 30 mins and lasted 50 mins. Got hired and later PIPed
How many interviewers on your loop? Was this a phone screen or a full interview loop (5-6 interviewers)? I wouldn’t take this as a bad sign for you as long as there were no “red flag” moments in your 10 minutes, something blatantly inappropriate. This is bad on the Amazon interviewer, phone screens should be an hour and have 2-3 prepared behavioral questions or technical competencies. Each interviewer in a loop should have 3-5 topics, either behavioral or technical. Anything less than these standards is just strange and wrong from an Amazon interview perspective. You shouldn’t stress, just talk to the recruiter about it.
Phone screen with the HM. HM said they would let the reps in the loop ask the harder questions. I picked up them saying perfect, perfect etc when walking through my resume. I managed to drag it out another 20 mins asking about Amazon and the role selling myself in my replies.
Maybe be was just having a bad day or had something urgent come up, or just already knew enough about you that he wanted to move forward, or already had another candidate lined up and taking this was a formality. No matter which way, it’s a bit of a shitt experience for you and not supposed to work that way. A few things: 1. I would be patient and see if they call back for a full loop. That should happen within 48 hours / 2 business days. 2. If they don’t, don’t stress too much. Just talk to the recruiter about opportunities with other teams. Phone screen outcome is rarely blocking from other opportunities and your recruiter should set you up with other HMs.
In that case you weren’t really interviewing - it was a phone screen (perhaps with the hiring manager) and they either realized your resume provided by the recruiter didn’t match what they needed (most likely), or this was a ghost job (building hiring pipeline in case things pick up later, and they don’t really have funding to hire the job you applied to), or they hated your one question (unlikely).
It was a phone screen and they are ramping up their team. Im overqualified for the role.
Yeah a lot of times, recruiters schedule phone screens with candidates that aren’t a fit (wrong skills, not enough skills, overqualified etc). The person who gets stuck taking the phone screen doesn’t want to be there because it is a waste of time but is trying to make it pleasant for the candidate instead of cancelling after the stupid recruiter scheduled without checking.
Fake interview for Green card processing
Elaborate?
In order for the GC application to be filed there is a step where the company puts out an opening with the same skill set as the person for whom GC is being filed. If there are any applications where the resume fits more than 50% of the skill set then an interview has to be scheduled. If the applicant is successful in the interview then the GC application does not move forward. So, some HMs have the interview just for the sake of it and reject the candidate so that they can check a box on the process and move the GC application forward. In short HM had only setup the interview to reject the candidate to check the box.
Maybe they need to go to the toilet urgently?
I have had to go to the toilet very badly in the middle of an interview (where I was the interviewer). I cancelled and rescheduled the interview.
A screen is not an interview. 10 min screen is probably fine. I teach people how to cut their worthless recruiter screen from 30 mins to 10 mins. Generally they'll move you forward once they you're qualified. A hiring manager doesn't probably need more than that.
It was a screen but they said to expect 60 mins.
60 min screen wtf, that is a little weird. I'd guess that you did well then, if you think you're overqualified. Congratulations!
This is highly unusual in my opinion unless this was a screen
