A friend of mine graduated from a tech bootcamp and just landed an offer from Amazon as a Junior Software Engineer in Seattle. TC: ~$91k first year with $75k base. Tried negotiating, but they refused to up the offer. Is this a good offer for a Junior, from an unrelated field?
Better than no job
wait wtf is this offer? Is this a level lower than the standard new grad SWE at L4?
Yep, lower than SDE 1, apparently.
Sounds like the Amazon equivalent of Google Eng Res then, interesting, hadn't heard of it. Seems like a good idea if he only has a boot camp
for someone who only has boot camp under his belt, this is pretty ok
If I came out of a tech bootcamp, I'd take anything from FAANG, including an SDE 0.5 position.
Good name to have , see if there is a straight forward path to getting converted to sde1
Is this an L3 position?
I did not know this position existed
Coming from a bootcamp Amazon is rolling the dice on him and expecting to spend more in training him. The TC reflects that. If he’s successful, after a couple of years at Amazon he can find better. Is he a diversity hire by any chance?
Are you sure... It's a software dev position... That sounds like a support engineer comp
Were you from a non-tech background? What was your TC/location if you don't mind sharing?
