I interviewed for an L5 BIE position with Alexa. I heard back from the recruiter today that I cleared the interview but this team has already filled the BIE role. She said that she can check what other teams have openings. These are her words - "....the vote is that we are inclined to hire you as a BIE at Amazon! ... team has unfortunately however filled our BIE role." I was asked sql, LP and data modelling case studies during the interview. From my retrospective after the interview, I felt that I could have done better on the case studies. 1. Did this happen to anyone else? How soon was the recruiter able to find a team? Is this a soft rejection? 2. I am planning to shift my career towards Data Engineering in the next 4-6 months (because personal interest, pay etc). I am gradually taking on DE responsibilities at my current job. If I get an Amazon BIE offer and take it, will I be able to internally transition to DE within 1 yr? YOE: 3 yr TC: 120k #amazon #bie #interview #offer
It does happen - but it would be tough to move to a DE role within 1 year. You will need enough data points in your BIE role to prove that you are already working as DE. Other option would be to interview as a DE within another team (full loop without BR) and could transition to a DE role.
Congratulations on your offer :) I have a bie interview coming up. What would you suggest me to prepare in terms of case studies?
I have a similar situation for a DE role. Did they eventually find a role for you?
1) No its not a rejection. You have a yes to hire, congrats. In my case, I interviewed with AWS VA team for a position in early Mar and the post got filled but they still interviewed me. I got a yes from the hiring loop. So my recruiter told me that the role got filled but I am still hired by Amazon, so she will work with the hiring team to find a new home for me. Mid Mar, I was selected by a team in CA on Friday. I spoke to the director and manager. Gave a yes to the team on Monday EOD. On Tuesday, the recruiter told me that the position got filled again (by internal person). So I was hung again wondering what will happen. My recruiter found another team at Seattle AWS which I said a yes to and accepted the offer on Mar 23 finally. The point is, during all this team hopping and team match, my recruiter was the person who got me the roles/team interest. I was told once the Amazon loop is passed, candidates are put into a pool where team can check and ask for them. I did not need to find any roles at all. The recruiter will get back to you. May be delayed but surely will. 2) Have friends at Amazon who always tell its fairly easy to transition internally within the company as per your interest and you will get the right support. I don't see any issues there.
Thanks, this is reassuring. Did you have to do additional interviews with the new teams you got matched to. Also, congratulations!
Not an interview but more of an informational session knowing each other to see if it's a right team and fit.
