Hi Blind friends! I recently cleared the L5 loop and got a verbal and an email confirmation of it. The recruiter is trying to schedule a negotiation call soon. I am currently living in Singapore and will have to relocate to Canada. I just needed some advice on a few things: 1) what compensation should I try to push for? I see that Vancouver has lower comp compared to the USA Amazon branches and most blind posts about Vancouver seem to be quite varied so not sure what the current market rate is and what I can get out of the negotiation 2) is it hard to get a Canadian work visa? Or is the process pretty much guaranteed? 3) is the salary for L5 enough to live a bit luxuriously in Vancouver in a rented studio/apartment keeping in mind that I eat out most of the times? I am worried about this because of the generally lower Vancouver salaries and extremely high taxes! This is my first FAANG offer/negotiation (even tho I cleared multiple faang interviews before, but was always unlucky cuz of headcount/work visa issues) Any help and advice would be really appreciated :) thank you! YOE: 4 TC: 90k SGD + bonus
lol come back down to earth home boy Living luxuriously lol
Hahaha well I suppose "luxuriously" was the wrong word. Living modestly and comfortably would probably describe best what I'm going for. I'm fully aware I can't afford any mansions lol
You’ll be pretty comfortable with SDE 2 salary in Vancouver. I was an intern, stayed in Yaletown and ordered takeout or bought food almost every day in August lol. So I think you should be somewhat comfortable with respect to buying food. From what I heard SDE 2 seems to be around $200k+ in Van. Check levels.fyi. I was told by an SDE 2 the numbers there are accurate.
Thank you for that! Good to know that you can order take out and live comfortably on that amount!!
My offer was 230k CAD.
Can you tell me your YOE and the initial offer and maybe how you negotiated up to that? Because that offer sounds pretty decent to me!
I did not negotiate. YOE <4
If you're not saving up to buy a place in Vancouver, you can live lavishly with $200k TC. If you wanna own a place though, gg.
Don’t try to combine these much in a single post. 1. No idea. Hope you get at-least 250k+ cad. If you don’t then try for other companies. You will get senior role and hence TC around 200-250k. Amazon is paying through the roof for SDE-2 in US. 2. Visa will be easy. 3. Yes, you will leave with luxuries inspite of high taxes. Just don’t plan to buy a yacht or even an apartment.
TC will be around 200-250K. Visa is relatively easy. The above TC is pretty good by Vancouver standards. All the best.
You mean the initial offer?
