Amazon L5 BIE offer evaluation

Hi all, I recently got offer from Amazon BIE level 5. I was asked my compensation expectation but I had no idea about the compensation level so I gave random figure 105-120k. The recruiter then offered me 135$ for TC. 120k base + 15k bonus 1 yr and 12k bonus for 2nd yr. Is the offer too low? update: i emailed the recruiter and the new tc is 145k. 128 base + 16k bonus +12k bonus. 20 rsus.

Yes. They are not legally able to ask how much you currently make which could/would bias their offer, so they phrase the question “how much do you expect to make?” You do not have to answer. You can see their first offer and negotiate from there but if you have no idea what the range is then dont deflate their first offer by giving them a range.

Lots of people will give their opinions based on software engineering salaries, but I think 135 for BIE L5 is great. You can always ask for more, but I think 135 is pretty good -assuming the offer is for Seattle

Agree on this. This is a good one for L5 BIE. The max I’ve seen is 145. You can try asking for more, but if they don’t increase, you can still go with this.

L5 BIE makes between 130-150 depending on YOE etc. I wouldn’t say you’re on the low end.

What's your YOE? I was offered 155k with 5 Yoe and since its way less than my current TC, I had to turn it down

Typical DE L5 range is 170-200k. BIE should not be too low.
