Hey I have 6 years of experience and a master's degree. I'm expecting an offer for L5 at Amazon. Am I too old for L5? What's the average work experience for an L5 at Amazon. I don't want to be the oldest guy working at L5. PS I'm 30!

Question about women in their 30’s?
L5/L6 is a career level for some folks. I've know VPs from other companies coming in as L5.
Yeah I actually know of a CTO who came in here as an L5
Bank VPs are just titles; doesn't mean much. But yeah, L5 can be a terminal level if you are competent and unambitious.
L5 is quite a wide band. I've seen 23 year olds- 45 year olds in L5.
I knew a guy with 4 kids, 39 yo, 15 yoe, L5. He just didn't want more responsibility and was happy at L5. It's career level at Amazon.
The average L5 engineer would be around their mid twenties in Amazon. Thats mostly because a vast majority of SDE2s are recently promoted SDE1s with about 2 years of experience in Amazon. However, as others have mentioned, there are some SDE2s in their 40s as well. So nothing to worry about.
Seems fine. Try to get that L6 promotion within 2-3 years.
Yes that's my top priority now. Would be glad if you can put some pointers on how to go about it, I know it depends on many factors still would appreciate your views.
I might not be the right guy to ask for advice, sorry.
I know L5s iin their 40
I’m an L5 in my 40s with my masters degree
I know multiple people in their late 40s with college-aged kids at L5. I think they are mostly cases of down-leveling after the interview who haven’t found an opportunity to advance to L6 yet.
I joined Amazon at 33 as a L5. There were fewer people who were L5 and in their 30s. A number of ‘kids’ with 2 years of experience and little maturity were L5s as well, however, that showed. In no time, I was able to earn trust, and became the de facto team lead. L5 is a wide range, and you would see two L5s at the far ends of that range treated very differently.
Very well said.
I'm starting next week in the Federal sector as a TAM any idea the WLB?
I know people your age who are L4. I am an L6 and in my early twenties. I have found that everyone is very accepting at Amazon and age is just a number pretty much. I do not think you’ll have an issue at all (This also depends on the org as well).
You are definitely not in "early" 20s as L6. I don't know of a single L6 that young.
Yup he is lying
You won’t be the oldest, I know of older L5s
