Possible? The role guidelines for Google and Meta L5 are a lot more individual focused than Amazon L6. The #1 criteria for getting to Amazon L6 is leading a project that multiple other people work on. I’m struggling with that because after layoffs we have 4 L5 in the team all working on different things. Google L5 is a lot more individual focused from what I heard. So can I interview at G and get an L5 offer? Anybody did that before? #google #amazon
More likely down level to L3 instead
Possible? Yes. Likely? Not at all.
Tenured L5 maps to L5 at Google. Pretty much every tenured L5 in my org that’s jumped to either Google or Meta ended up joining at L5/E5 and from what they’ve told me, the expectations are very similar. L6 at Amazon has a much higher scope and is closer to E6/L6 at Meta/Google. Apparently 30-40% of engineers at Google/meta are L5/E5 meanwhile L6 at Amazon makes up < 15% of engineers.
I got L5 at Google with L5 at Amazon But modern Amazon L6 is a lot easier to get too, so
I’m 100% confident I can get Amazon L6 if I get the right projects. It’s the lack of growth and the clear requirement that I influence other L5s that’s the problem.
According to https://www.levels.fyi, L5 Google is L6 at Amazon.
