I'm currently exploring opportunities as an L7 Principal Solutions Architect at Amazon's Seattle office and would appreciate insights into the average or expected overall compensation for this role in such an expensive area. Is $500K for total comp possible assuming excellent performance on interview?!
Something tells me that you wouldn't be able to land such job title. If you did, you wouldn't be asking this question
Why does everyone want to be a dick?
Alternatively, dude lives in bumfuck Tennessee, where prevailing wage for even the most technically senior staff is pennies compared to what they could make in a higher COL area.
500k definately possible (would say its even low) but landing an L7 role directly from a consulting company is almost impossible that is unless you have worked for 10+ years in a SAAS/ big tech company.
^this
Seen situations where they've been poached from firms while doing work for them. L4-L7
L7 is easily 500k+.
It’s L7 SA. Most SA don’t have coding background and architect solutions. ChatGPT can answer half the customer questions an SA used to.
Doesn't change the comp band though for the role. Agreed that L7 SA would hit the 500K mark.
L7 SA as an IC is difficult to come in the door at. Most L7s in SA are SAMs.
And even then, these positions are usually lined up for someone based on their network.
What's a SAM?
No. Don’t.
Yes. L7 external hires have been CTOs of $100M+ orgs. Coming from Deloitte, I'd expect an L6 in most cases
Hey can i ping u i am also from deloitte looking for better opportunities
Don't need to ping... just post here. What's your question?
L7 architect should be 850k-1m?
That would be moreso in the L8 territory as Sr Principal. I'm not aware of any L7's making that much from my experience
Does that job family even go to L8? Haven't been there in a few years and don't recall seeing any. There are only several dozen L8s in the SDE family across the company.
No that isn’t a reasonable TC for a L7 right now. Very high. Most will be coming in $100k-$200k less than that.
Band is 350-500.
But currently they are trying to lower people In pay bands. So $500k is almost impossible. $350… probably
Seems Low. L5 should be $350k+
That's L5 for SWE right? And this is different from SWE IIUC, it's like Solutions Engineer or something
Lol L5 SA doesn’t make 350, that’s top of L6.
