This week during a leadership meeting some L7 and L8 leaders demonstrated how they truly feel about the employees that work for them. Sentiment was expressed that they aren't worried about RTO and the recent forcing of Virtual employees to relocate because it will "weed out the weaker employees by getting them to quit." During the same meeting these leaders shared "if you aren't willing to work 60 hours a week than you shouldn't work for this org or Amazon." Shameful to see how horrible leadership is in place for some orgs at Amazon. That's what you get when most of the leaders you hire get their positions thanks to having friends in higher level roles. Safe to say that Amazon Leadership Principles are dead, well at least until your manager needs to give your yearly review. #TIL #TodayILearned #Funfacts #RTO #amazon
š„± Same old Amazon
If an L7/L8 says so s/he is just an idiot. Why 60 hours when your contract says 38hours. S/he needs to allocate work and resources properly.
Another day, another āAmazon is toxicā post. Iām waiting for the job market to get a little better before I bounce. Iām worried that staying there more than 2 years will lead to a reputational hit on my resume.
Amazon is not the best, but I seriously question this post. Most L8s I know (albeit not a statistically significant amount) have reluctantly agreed to RTO and some are trying their best to bend around the rules. Iāve seen some give unofficial days off for people who had to work overtime for something, really trying to hit just 40hrs/week
Post is 100% accurate, but every org is different.
I can personally say this org is either uniquely toxic or this post is an absolute lie. Virtually NO L7 or L8 has this opinion.
First month working in this org I was told by an L7, "The only way to get promoted at Amazon is to work 60 hours a week." They didn't appreciate my reply when I said, "If that's the case, sounds like people need to work on their time management skills."
Name the org. At least give the L10 or L11 name
How empowered are the L7 s they are just senior managers
Same observation that others made. Making a false broad generalization. For sure your org is shitty and there are likely more, but empirically, most L7/L8 share the same pain of RTO and have absolutely no saying on the policy.
Agree, also this is true in other companies too. I heard many L8s say similar things in Apple too. Just that they did a few months back, and everyone has forgotten now.
Itās just such a dated mindset.
