Amazon New Grad vs Masters
I'm in my senior year and I have an offer from Amazon at a team I really like. I'm debating doing a master's because the problems I want to work on seem want MS/PHD's. Thoughts? TC: 103k base/34k 1st yr sign on/ 20k 2nd yr/ 70k RSU over 4 years
Which team and what field. A master's helps for some areas way more than others
Robotics team and robotics/ml for master's/field
I know a Berkeley undergrad who is ML Engineer lead now. Masterās degree is completely a waster of time. Most people do Masterās in CS are Indians, because they need a visa to work in US. Donāt throw your money away! However, PHD is another story. I would strongly encourage you to do PHD if you got an offer.
Amazonās offer: possibly one opportunity Doing your Masters: always an option later (even in the short term!) Going with Amazon leaves you options.
Education is the best investment you can do. You can get job at amazon any day.

If you are unsure about what specific field / area interests you in the long term, working a couple of years before deciding on master's would be good. It will give you a good opportunity to live life at young age with actual income :) and may give some time to seriously decide what master's / where etc. Also, I am not suggesting to work because your offer is with Amazon. It is more about general life approach recommendation. I am sure some people may think opposite I e. Do master's right away so you are set at an young age to figure out other aspects of life later.
Let me tell you why these folks encourage you to do a Masterās. Because majority of people on Blind are Indians. They came to the country to do Masterās, and think it is worth it. Itās true because they got a ticket (visa) to work for US tech companies. You do not need to follow their path. Masterās degree is s waste of time. You end up with same or similar income. 60K on tuition and expense, and at least 100K after tax income loss. Also, you will lose 1+ years work experience. If you really want to do a Master, google āOMSCSā. You will thank me later.
