I have been reading about others' feedback after Amazon on-sites. Mine wasn't really similar to any of these. I did on-site on Monday, flew home on Tuesday. Got an email saying they went with another candidate. Nothing else. I reached out to recruiter to see if it was worthwhile to apply to other positions. She said there is no policy, but I should wait six months. What does this mean? Was I red flagged? I would have taken a lower position if TC was right. This was for a Finance Manager at a FC. I went to B-school with a director that referred me. Wonder if that was why I got interview to begin with. I have seen others get offers for different teams, offers for other positions, recruiter feedback, etc. Not just dinged and ghosted. I don't feel like the interview was that bad. Am I really screwed? Did I get myself black listed? TC: $90k in this environment, $103-125 in good years 11 YOE
After an on-site rejection, it will take 6-12 months to re-qualify. This is normal at Amazon, Google, Facebook and Microsoft.
Thank you. I guess my concern is that others talk about how their recruiters gave them other options where mine was basically, "thanks for your time, but now fuck off." Am I reading too much into that?
Yes. You are reading too much into that. There are a million reasons to reject a candidate. Some of those reasons aren’t always about the person. I know many who been rejected on their first round at Amazon. The 6 month policies are to give the candidate time to grow and reapply. There is also “blacklisted”. It means never to interview this candidate again. So that means, the candidate did fuck up! Made racist, sexist... comments. For your future FANG interviews, do a mock interview with a few friends (ideally manager and principal level). Keep practicing your interview skills and the Leadership principals. Good luck!
You were recycled not rejected. You're eligible to apply for other roles. My assumption is you interviewed for an FM role and were most likely downleveled for SFA or FA II. There isnt a "blacklist" so dont listen to SPY_
agree , don’t be disappointed, it happens . Apply again in 6 months . They key to make it through to any interview is preparation . Self introspect. Keep applying for roles you find you are a good fit at other places as well . A similar thing happened to me as well , my loop went well but I did not get the offer a year later applied and prepared better I did get offer . From my experience as a candidate and taking interviews now , preparation is key .
Thank you. Looking back I probably should have gone for SFA. That is what I'll target in 6 months. I figured with turnover, I can prove myself and promote in a couple years. I only applied for the FM job because a director said I could do it. It just wasn't his org, so I guess my loop had a different opinion.
my managers hired their best friend as an engineer - who can barely write a script. this sort of thing will certainly give you a rejection. don't sweat. practice on interview. be confident. try other teams soon- if you can, avoid Amazon. bad company. there are 600 L7 to hire - that is 500k each, a 300 mil salary, L7 do not do nothing. ridiculous money to waste. i don't believe this company will exist forever like this.
If you are confident that you did well for your level still there could be some other reasons for rejection. Maybe the position went to hold, maybe there was a candidate who met the requirements close to the team, maybe something changed with leadership decision that put hold on ther head counts due to this coronavirus situation.
So there are two things that can happen when a team decides to not go with the candidate. 1) they feel you are an Amazon fit but the hiring manager didn’t feel you are right for the role. In which case the recruiter will try to connect you with other teams and get an interview with them. If the team likes you the. They extend an offer. 2) the interview panel feels you were not good with amazon LPs i.e. you did not clear the amazon bar. In that case they put a block on you for some time. Looks like the latter happened with you unfortunately. Also not every job is flexible on level so that might be the reason they didn’t offer you a lower level
This sounds most likely. Thank you.
You got lucky
“We went with another candidate,” when not accompanied by a speech around how they liked you and want to find another role for you to join the company, is a polite way to say “we’re not inclined to hire you.” 6-12 months before another interview is so that you have time to accumulate new experiences so there are new data points to consider. If you come back and just talk about the same stories you’re likely going to fail again.
This.
This is the right answer. Amazon does company-level offers, meaning if they were in lined to hire you they could make a hire recommendation even if they had no positions available. This feedback means the interviewer's were not inclined. Interviewer's also consider downleveling or other adjacent role fits as part of the discussion, which would have been communicated be if they felt that was the right option. The interviewers (or at least the bar raiser and/or hiring manager) did not believe you were the right fit for the role at Amazon right now. You will not make progress applying for other jobs there; just practice up and try again in a few months.
I think u r rejected so u have to wait six months. If they like you but someone else is better they will just ask you to interview again when another opening is available—they wouldn’t say u need to wait six months.
That’s really good to hear that I can apply to another position. I think I just fucked mine up too and was trying to see if there’s a way to get around the 6 month. 🤣🤣🤣 thanks. Although I’m not rejected yet though.

Biden wants to raise capital gains tax to 40%
I think they have cut down on the amount of hiring they were planning on doing since Covid-19 started.
Thanks. I just see all these other posts where options were given or at least the recruiter was responsive after the interview.
