Amazon Onsite SDE1 Prep
This will be my first “real” onsite interview. Up until this point most places have either been a joke of an onsite(JP Morgan/Nike) or phone interviews. I have the onsite for Amazon in January and want to give it my best effort since I have time to prep. I’ve done 250 LC but still get tripped up sometimes and Im weak in DP and Graphs. Luckily, the questions ive gotten from Amazon were in areas I was more comfortable with (trees, arrays, etc). What should I do besides mindlessy grind Amazon tagged questions on LC? I’m also talking to myself in the mirror to simulate LP questions. I’m not sure what to expect and what to focus on to best utilize prep time TC 110 YOE: 0.8

Lol my onsite was cancelled cause the role was filled and I was given a new recruiter to onsite with her team. She hasn’t responded because she’s probably on PTO so waiting until January to schedule. I’m at 340 LC now
Wow 340 . Dang. I am at 195. Moving onto LP and system design (Sde 2 target) . I have my onsite on Jan 13 .
Sounds like you’ve done a lot to prepare! Good luck 👍 you might want to study a bit on object oriented design principles. For example, polymorphism vs composition. I had an on site with amazon not too long ago and it was mostly design and leadership principle questions. Got asked a graph question and a hash map type question. I recommend doing the alien dictionary question
Hey man! One of my friends actually had an onsite with Amazon too recently for SDE1 and it was all design and LP questions. For you was it OO design questions (assuming you’re talking about SDE1?). I bought grokking OO design and some of examples like building amazon.com or a parking lot seemed helpful. Or are the design questions more like leetcode min stack where you implement some functions of a class and have to choose the right data structures? I’ll take a look at alien dictionary, thanks!
Grokking the design is helpful but my other advice would be to make sure you narrow the scope of you’re design to what the interviewer is specifically looking for. I was asked to do design Amazon review request system. And design a fish aquarium game and the different fish classes, with the fish aquarium they were looking to see if I used composition over polymorphism. With the review request problem, I’m not sure precisely what they were looking for but I think I should of done a better job of solving the specific problem instead of thinking more about the bigger picture of the system
