I interviewed with AWS. Recruiter said they want to extend an offer for a PM and not a PM-T. I am surprised. No interviewer asked me a technical question other than examples of technically challenging projects I’ve worked on - which I would agree they probably weren’t the most challenging from a technology standpoint. I have an engineering background. I’ve worked closely with engineers at big companies and startups. So where EXACTLY is the line drawn between a PM and a PMT? What is the difference in day to day? Any recommendations on how/whether to try to switch? Any recommendations or thoughts would be appreciated!
What is your TC and YOE?
They haven’t given a number yet. 8
PMT is expected to write more techincal papers but definitely not to tpm level. It's more about press release and requently asked questiond. Expected to engaguge in marketing campaigns etc. Regular Pm doesn't how to talk the language with devs.
I can’t believe they said I don’t know how to talk the language with devs!
What is diff between pm and pmt?
You may ask your boss to change your role from PM to PMT and get a raise after you join Amazon. Very common. But be sure that you deliver PMT stuff, not just want more money. Everyone looks down upon those incompetent PMTs who are not technical at all.
What was the offer eventually? Thanks
