As a new joinee in Amazon i wanted to explore details about performance review. I explored few details and want to know a bit clear. Forte review- all people under my manager will auto provide review and i can send 10 people request for review. Who are these prople? can i ask anyone from other team? Is Forte review more important or Manager has all the power for performance result? I am asking to know if the coworker can really cause trouble with their review?
You can send to anyone (in or outside team) who has worked with u. What's the point in asking forte review from someone who can't give reasonable feedback. If all your reviews are from outside team then manager might get suspicious. Btw don't send to toxic team members. Some give bad (and wrong) feedback. Backstabbing is common. Forte is independent of performance review (OLR) . But good forte review can help when u r switching teams
Thanks for clarification about Forte. Yes backstabbing is the main reason for clarification. So how really the performance review happens? Is it just my manager decides along with other managers in the team?
It's called OLR. Your manager and his peer and other senior people will go through data points for each reportee. This report goes to higher levels for calibration and later it comes back again after calibration.
IMO, as a new joiner it is unlikely that you’ll get harsh reviews from peers/manager. The’ll likely provide generic feedback as for anyone else at you level/role. When they have more context (say 1y of working together) things can get spicy and u get good/actionable feedback too. How your manager interprets the peer feedback can vary quite a bit. Some take it very seriously others with a grain of salt.
Forte is bullshit and waste of time. It does not affect your comp or your performance rating, so pretend like it did not happen.
Typically Forte is something for you to use to understand your strengths and opportunities to grow. It’s not a performance evaluation tool per se. Forte feedback can be used by your manager as an input in development conversations, but should not be used to inform performance ratings. I’m not saying that it’s not done in reality though. Wien it comes to your ranking, manager is the most important input along with talent review calibration.

The forte reviews don’t mean anything. I received exceptional feedback from everyone but got a mediocre review from my manager and a bad raise. This was after I told them I was transferring to a new team, they begged me to stay and told my new boss I’m extremely valued and will be missed. You think they were getting back at me for transferring? I think so…..
