In devlist now. Got an offer starts 8/8. Need ~6 weeks for H1B transfer. My Manager is pushing really hard, checking task progress daily and threatening to put me into pip anytime. What should I do atm? If I was in pip next week, shall I quit and take severance? A bit worried about the H1B transfer as the grace period is only 60 days.#swe #software
H1 transfer takes less than 2 weeks if it’s premium
The attorney moves slowly, stating 4-6 weeks needed to prepare all the paperwork.
Just stop working and coast in pip… You already have a next job lined up and you can annoy the crap of your manager. sounds like your manager is a typical trash manager in amazon.
“Quit” and “severance” don’t go in the same sentence
Sorry what I mean is stop working on the tasks, let him pip me immediately (I’m sure he’ll do that) and take severance.
My suggestion play it safe until visa transfer is complete. Then boom stop giving a single fuck and let him pip you.
I don't see an issue. Pivot alone is a minimum 30d, and you're not even there yet.
It’s not guaranteed that you’ll get 30 days. Your manager can let you go anytime if he feels you’re not doing well. Same goes for focus plan, they can pip you anytime once you’re in focus. I got this info directly from a manager from different org who was helping me during my focus. He was very honest and felt bad for me the way my manager was treating me and he has nothing to gain. So I believe him. So take care of yourself and do what’s best for you.
While what you say is true, it's also a very risky move for the SDM. The whole purpose of Focus and Pivot is to collect evidence. You can't collect evidence if you're simply cutting the process short. If you're spending a solid 6h/day on improving, there's no way it'll be cut short, unless it's clearly a mistake hire situation. Of course, merely 6h/d is unlikely to get you a passing grade, but there's hardly any empirical evidence you can get fired like that.
Once you leave, do let us know the team name so any newcomers to Amazon can avoid the shitty manager or team.
Any Team, Any Org, Amazon, Earth.
LMAO
Which org is this ?
Like every org at Amazon
Complaint to HR about your manager, document everything showing he bullies you and micro-manages you. If HR doesn't respond, take it to your senior leadership. Tell them that you lawyered up. Once you do that, you're untouchable. An Ex Amazonian here, and I know quite a few people who did that.
Is the situation affecting your mental health? If yes, and if you have been at Amazon for a year, FMLA is a solution to consider. You will be getting paid 60% of base while on FMLA/STDI, and your RSUs will keep vesting. You can choose any number of weeks up to 12 (and can go beyond 12w on STDI if necessary), but of course with support from a doctor.
FMLA? Have you worked there a year,
Thats dumb. It doesn’t pay.
It’s not dumb if you have visa issues and need to have a job longer
