Received Amazon Pivot yesterday. Was already interviewing within Amazon but final interview wasn’t done. PIP plan cannot be complete in given time frame and my manager also agrees but senior leadership won’t budge. Severance 21k. On H1B visa Suggestions? At Amazon since Aug 2017
Your career in Amazon has ended. Move on and never look back. Try Microsoft
Since, you are on H1B you need to buy some time. So make an appeal and then if that does not go through work through your PIP. Severance wont help you a lot. Time is of essence considering you need time to prepare, interview, get offer and atleast wait for H1 transfer receipt.
Document everything, especially if your manager agrees.
May I ask what you did or didn't do to get to this point?
The PIP plan is unrealistic and I asked whether the performance on PIP would be evaluated at the end of the plan. They said no. If early deliverable are missed, they can end and terminate with the reduced severance. No option to appeal the pivot. There was no indication on the dev plan and I pushed my manager to tell if I was in, he won’t say if I was or not. I even asked the career ambassador, they said the same thing. At this point, the best option I have is to take full severance with 2 week notice period.
Severance is 2 months' salary?
Just curious if this scenario is specific to some teams/orgs withing Amazon. Is it more in AWS and less in retail perhaps? Do you have to consistently miss the timelines to get on the list or even missing one deadline does that for you?
As per the feedback, I missed a deliverable which was assigned a month ago and was expected to finish in 3 weeks. While developing we identified certain gaps in our input which pushed the deadline another two weeks. And that was it. I don’t think I missed any other deadlines ever. FYI: 2 more people in my team are changing team and another employee was terminated last month as she kind of shouted on my managers manager for setting up unreasonable tasks and he would even ask her to work on weekends . Overall, I should have changed teams earlier but was kind of loyal to the team. This is in Supply chain operations
Are you SDE1? Seems like many SDE1's hired in 2017, who couldn't get to SDE2 in 2 years, are getting PIPed now.
OP, what option did you choose?
Sorry to hear that husky. Did they not put you in dev list and gave you a formal dev plan. If not then have documented all the evidence to go for an appeal? I would say start looking outside and take severance and leave. PIP is not worth it.
