If you are hired remote or even being asked to move then Do not move. The way we are putting people on focus and pivot, you have a high chance of being fired. Now if u move and fired in 3 months thats not a very pleasant situation. Stay put. Either negotiate or look for a new job. Tc:250 Yoe -10
This sounds like an another scary movie on work visa!
A work visa is a free ticket to a scary movie for life
There was a post on linkedin saying he got laid off from Amazon after moving his whole family to Seattle…
Last year shopee rescinded offer from a chinese national the moment he landed in singapore for relocation
It’s sad but I doubt think Amazon should discriminate against employees who didn’t move. You should be fired based on performance and laid off by business, not by sob story
We need a Union for remote workers. To show we won’t be intimidated
We need a tech workers union period.
Would never happen..too much backstabbing by design
MAMA workers union is high time…
Or a winnable class action lawsuut
Yeah but if you don’t move you are more likely to be let go
True but u atleast have a support system in your original place. Moreover u have your whole set up that is not going for toss. Its a bit easier to handle than u come to a new city and starting to settle down while being laid off
This happened to my friend at Microsoft too. He was let go just 4mons after relocation
Man, that's a tough break for your friend. How did he handle the situation? Was he given any sort of warning or indication that they might let him go? This is the kind of stuff nobody prepares you for when you start in this industry. Also, did he find something else in the area or did he have to relocate again?
No,he is our of job since March. They gave him 3mons of Severance package.
