I study in a public university outside of the US and has been close since the pandemic. I've been working remotely for the whole year for a startup in the US waiting for my classes get back and an Amazon recruiter approach me to interview with them. I decided to do it and today I received an offer to a SDE I role in my country with a better compensation but different city. I'm thinking in accept the offer and transfer to another college to take night classes just to finish my degree. Anyone has already been in a similiar situation could advise me? Any help is welcome
Haha I would definitely not reccomend underestimating Amazon's workload and ruthlessness unless you're very confident in your ability to quickly pick up an entirely new ecosystem of tools, understanding repos and dependencies, professional communication, integrated testing, CI/CD, basically professional corporate coding practices, and the ability to handle your last load of college courses without burning out. Not worth it dude. Pick one or the other but unless you're a solid A student with plenty of real world experience, I wouldn't do it.
+1 to this
Oh and you'll likely be assigned on call duty within a few months. Again I cannot stress how bad of an idea this is. Amazon is huge and so obviously some teams are sane and some are nightmarish. But I really dont want people to burn out
You can ask to convert your offer to an internship.
