Please evaluate if the below offer is good and let me know if there's any room for negotiation. Role: SDE1 Base: 130 Signon: 31+25 RSU: 40 shares TC: 165K Yoe: 1.6yrs development exp Degree: Master's Previous work exp: 2yrs in Amazon India in an operations role I think it's above average for SDE1 from what I've researched. Does anyone think it's possible to negotiate to 170ish? Thanks! #compensation
Well, you certainly can negotiate there still is some more room.....what I know of you can stretch it to take around 185 imo
You think 185 is possible? Recruiter said 160 is usually the highest and I'm not sure where to negotiate for more? RSU?
185 is definitely possible. They might need a director approval but if you’re good enough it’s possible
High base, low sign-on, low shares. You will be expected to be promo'd to sde2 in 1-2 years with that base, but expect the number if promos those years to be limited. My rule is never join amzn for any position less than L6/senior/sde3 as promos are incredibly political yet expected or pip'd, work available is very limited to oncall work which would limit your influence and promo opportunitues further, and Pips are forced every year and handed out liberally. SDE3 is a career position, highly respected and much easier to interview into han get promoted into. If you are early in your career come back in 2-3 years and go for sde3. If you are dead set on amazon then tell recruiter sde2 or bust. They will say no, but if they really like and you pull their leg your recruiter will give you an extra phone screen with a manager to talk about lp's and they will give you sde2.
I initially thought the role was for SDE2 when the recruiter mentioned there'll be a system design round but the actual on-site didn't have any design rounds. I also didn't ace the final bar raiser round. So I wouldn't be surprised if they downleveled me. I'm also concerned if I join at SDE2 but I'm not ready I'll get piped much faster than if I join at SDE1 which I can perform comfortably and then get promoted to SDE2.
What they don't tell you is unless you are a new grad you are held to same standard and calibrated against your sde2 peers after 6 months as if you were in fact sde2 you're doing the same role just paid less, failing one round is fine, BR had authority to single vote decline you and they didn't do you did better than you thought, tell the recruiter you feel unfairly downleveled and not given a chance with sys design
Are they filing for your H1 this year?
Depends if I accept as soon as possible.
Although 180K is possible, 170 is realistically the max unless there are special circumstances. I’d ask for 5K signon and sign the same day if no competing offers.
I was thinking of asking for 9k more sign-on and 50 shares instead of 40. Is that feasible?
Idk, it’s kinda stretching it but try your luck.
