Posting for a friend: Has 4 yoe in industry (FANG) and 5 years of PhD in the relevant field, with a few industrial patents. I assumed 5 years of relevant PhD can be considered at least as 2 years of industry experience, so total of 6 yoe. The recruiter said the feeadback was very strong and asked for expectations, but he didn't give out any numbers. No competing offers right now. What's the estimated TC (or package break down) for such a case (Seattle)?
Amazon doesn't consider PhD as experience. At 4 yoe, he'll be lucky to get $230 in TC.
His PhD is in the very specific field he's working (and the job/team Amazon offering), and the recruiter already confirmed that they'd consider his PhD because of that. But even for 4yoe I feel 230k is not high.
I'm pretty sure 240k is the max for L5 anyways. Why doesn't he go for an applied scientist role if he has a PhD? The comp band for AS is a lot higher
