I have ~20 yrs experience in tech and with leading multiple teams for over 10 yrs. Has anyone gone through amz process recently? What was the toughest/hardest LP question? 1. Would love to practice with someone who is preparing for amazon as well. 2. For system design apart from grokking system design interview and Donne martin blog what else would you recommend? 3. How important is initial phone screen in deciding your level?
I know they ask LP’s but what points/factors you emphasize to make sure you raise the bar to meet L7
Obviously you must demonstrate that you’ve made a huge impact in prior roles. Beyond that, key areas for separating as L7 are Hire & Develop (primarily focused on developing other leaders) and overall examples of leadership (setting strategy and direction for a team, influencing other leaders, managing change).
Can I DM you?
I think your experience qualifies, just talk about what you did. It was all just conversations and it flows wherever the interviewer wanted. So don't BS and you will be fine.
Is it ok to use the same project to reflect multiple LP’s? I have about 4-5 high impact projects/work streams and most apply to multiple LP. Wondering if that’s ok
I was in the same situations. Used same projects for multiple answers, but highlighted different aspects of the projects. You really do need to have prepared multiple stories, in STAR format, for each of the 14 LPs. Then you can generally figure out which LP is being asked, and then pull out one of your stories. Checkout this blog: https://interviewgenie.com/blog-1/how-to-interview-at-amazon-with-leadership-principles. The woman lists specific questions for each LP, and most of the questions I was asked were those listed here. Good luck. As long as you are prepared, you'll do well!
Did you get an offer. What kind of system design was asked
I got an L7 SDM offer in AWS previously. The whole thing was easy tbh. Just asked about my past experiences. Not sure what you need to prep for.
