Amazon Search L5 vs Zillow P3

Posting from another account. Did not mention Amazon resume impact (Already have another great company on my resume so I wouldn't rate this so highly). Amazon L5 (Bay Area) ($350K) - - Pros: a) The scale of work is far greater b) The team seems to be doing really good work IMO c) TC is really high - Cons: a) Amazon WLB b) I really do not enjoy micromanagers and am afraid Amazon is full of them (Maybe search team is different) c) Practically no benefits d) Might not get time to prep for interviews if I'm working on weekends Zillow P3 (Seattle) ($280K) - - Pros: a) WLB is great b) TC is good for Seattle. Also, it looks like they offered a high P3 offer right off the bat (the current number is after negotiations). c) Good work (everyone on loop mentioned this team was handling the largest datasets) with good scalability problem statements d) Actual Benefits (which make me feel like they want me lol) - Cons: a) Not Amazon scale b) Not confident in overall Zillow business decisions c) Might impact resume to move to Zillow scale company d) Fully remote - I like going into the office and talking to people (my personal preference) Weather & nightlife is not a concern for me. My aim is to work at these companies for 1-2 years and search for senior roles. If you have either worked in Amazon Search or Zillow, please post a comment below on your experiences. YOE - 4 EDIT - Zillow P3 TC is $280K. Can't change the poll after posting. #tech #amazon #zillow #amazonl5 #offers #offer

Your plan is the only right way to approach working at Amazon. Promotion is not guaranteed in that timeline, you'll need sponsorship.

Yeah, I'm just afraid the workload will be so high that I won't be able to prep on weekends. Let alone taking days off to attend the interview. IDGAF about promotion, I'd rather job hop.

I will say working at Amazon has exposed me to new lows I never expected 😂 Some states pay monthly, some states pay biweekly? California straight up gets more holidays and better vacation carry over? Time off system that requires an employee-written wiki to decipher and a spreadsheet to optimize? #worldsbestemployer

First of all, don't go to Amazon. Especially if you're on a work visa. But sounds like you will anyway. If so, plan for quitting on your 366th day. Amazon is a nightmare.

Oracle dEkd65 OP Oct 27, 2021

Planning to hop in a year at both places. My only concern is if I will have the time to prep and give interviews in a high-workload place like Amazon.

Not Amazon, will be very hard to find the time to interview while working at the world's best employer

Amazon slubot1 Oct 27, 2021

OP, not every team in Amazon works on high scale. If your team does then forget WLB, you would be leetcoding only when taking a shit in the bathroom. LOL. Go with Zillow, continue LCing whenever you can and get out.

Will I get interviews from Stripe/Robinhood/Doordash after joining Zillow is the question.

Amazon slubot1 Oct 28, 2021

As long as your resume hits the buzzwords and you are in touch with recruiters, you will get calls. No one knows the future so take my suggestion with a grain of salt.

Zillow. TC / hours worked will be 10x of Amazon.

Oracle dEkd65 OP Oct 29, 2021

idc about hours worked tbh. I am very young. Curious to know if you receive calls from Doordash/Robinhood/Stripe? Just worried that moving to a smaller scope company will affect my future opportunities.

Zillow is in the real estate industry. Plenty of opportunities around Redfin, Compass, Realtor, Opendoor... Out of 10k+ devs who’ve come out of Zillow, there is only about 5 who made it to the non real estate companies you’ve mentioned according to LinkedIn.

Wow that’s a big P3 offer. What’s the breakdown of it?
