What level would Zuck be, had he not created FB
I just got a job in the Operations team at Amazon and was informed that the office would be Amazon Everest building in Bellevue. I've been researching where to live since and can't make up my mind. I would be moving from Cincinnati somewhere around October end. I'm 25, have lots of friends working in Amazon Seattle HQ, ideally I want a place where it's lively (most important), there's a good gym nearby and good restaurants. I'm not sure if I would be able to do the 45-60 minutes commute from Seattle neighborhoods everyday as I would prefer public transport since I'm not huge fan of driving. I also might not be in the United States for a long time so just want to enjoy my time while I'm here. #housing #seattle #bellevue #amazon
I have lived in DT Bellevue since 2015. I have never needed a car. I generally take the 550 Express if I need to go to Seattle which is probably only once every blue moon.
Bellevue is lame. Move to Cap Hill/Ballard and move to a Seattle team before wfh ends and you'll be fine.
Yea CHAZ was pretty lame too
+1 Seattle
Agreed on Seattle. Ballard is great but takes forever to get to the freeway. I’d opt for Cap Hill, Queen Anne or Madison Park. You can get on 90 to Bellevue pretty easy and those are nice neighborhoods. I’d also recommend West Seattle but the bridge is screwed up so that really is screwing people over.
Why’d you even move from Cincinnati? The COL there is so low. Amazon anyway has issued wfh guidance until Jan. So nobody is going to the office. It wouldn’t make any difference where you’re working from as long as your visa is properly applied and payroll is aware for taking out the right state tax. Also I’d think Washington would be the last state to fully open so all the “fun” you think you’re going to have there would most likely be next summer. If I were you, I’d just keep saving $$$ until then by staying at Cincinnati.
Yes, I plan to stay here till October 31st but after that I would have to renew my lease and my roommate is leaving so it would be better for me to move to Seattle. Also, I have a friend who is in Seattle right now and he wants to lease an apartment with me, his lease also ends 31st October, so that works out too if I chose to stay in Seattle over Bellevue Also I literally have couple of friends in Cincy, came here in Feb and then the virus happened so I never got a chance to make new friends, Seattle I have a lot of friends already.
Well it’s just my two cents. I wouldn’t meet up with a lot of folks until vaccine comes out. I FaceTime twice a week with my friends - works fine for now. I probably meet folks in person maybe once in a couple of months. So I’d trade off meeting a few folks in person once in a few weeks for saving money. It looks like you’ve got your priorities figured out, so go for it!
Why don't you find a place to live where the Amazon Shuttles goes? You can live Seattle downtown, Ballard... and take the shuttle that goes to the Bellevue buildings.
Hey OP What did you end up picking? I start at Amazon Bellevue in a month and have questions about accommodation options
Cross lake commute is no fun, but the closest you'll find to "lively" on the Eastside is downtown Bellevue. Fortunately that's where Amazon is located. There are some fancy gyms and restaurants there, but it's somewhat car focused and more sterile than Seattle. Depends what you like. There are express buses from downtown Seattle like 550 that go to Bellevue transit center too. So at least you don't have to drive if you do the commute.
Yes, downtown Bellevue is “sterile”, if by that you mean it lacks homeless people and garbage on the streets like you find everywhere in Seattle.
Yes but also no culture or fun things to do besides spend money shopping or eating at restaurants. Depends what you like. Living somewhere I feel comfortable walking everywhere is also important to me. Downtown Bellevue is still very auto oriented.
