Hi I am from Apple in the Bay Area. i recently interviewed at Amazon for a Sr. PM-T role in Alexa. The recruiter reached back stating i was down leveled and now its a PM-T down leveled to L5 role got the offer. 145k 70k bonus split 2 yrs and 100 rsus. I have 11years of experience.I am excited about the role. However thinking should i accept it or not. Is this a decent offer? Recruiter was saying i can be considered for off cycle promotion? The role obviously is in Seattle. This would be a direct transition to a PM role from engg. Was wondering if this is worth it. I will be reporting to someone way younger who is an 2012 mba grad :(. Can I switch teams after joining in say a month? Do i have growth there?
Ask them to shove it. It's not worth it.
The recruiter said it is a final offer any amazonians. Only reason I am considering is because of a career switch to PM. But have not made my decision.
Ah, the career switch is why you got downleveled - you don't actually have 11 years of experience as a PM. I wouldn't take a PM-T role as a 5, almost all PMTs are L6.
I have 5 years as a PM 5 years eng. however manager said off cycle promotion is possible.dont know if i should trust him. Thinking of joining and switching. Is that ok?
That seems like a killer comp package for a non-tech role. You'd be much more comfortable on that salary in Seattle than SF. I say go for it.
The title Product Manager-Technical is this still non tech?
Yes. PM-T is a PM with tech knowledge and experience but it's a business role. Scope for L5 PM-T is within your own org and while you can nudge the team in your preferred direction on how to implement, you don't have the final say on picking tech. TPM, otoh, is a technical role and at L5 has cross-team and even cross-org scope and plays a major part in driving the development.
Sounds like from an exp perspective this is a good role but how easy it is to get promo and is the comp good for a l5 pm-t 145 70 2yrsand 100 RSU's am i low balled?
$145 seems low for someone with 11 years of experience.
Never go for a position below your ability. Paycheck will make you happy just for 1-2 months. Avoid the frustration of reporting to a person half your exp.
Standard MO for lowballing. Keep pushing else you are setting the tone for the long term
I think the offer is low. I work at in a similar role with less experience and Salesforce offers more. May be go back with a counter?
145 is super low, also better a king at crappy job than peasant in a decent or awesome job, my take
